The Quarry and Phoenix occurrences are located on the eastern slope of the ridge north west of Crofton Lake, and overlooking Crofton

The area is underlain by pyritic silicified metasediments of the Upper Devonian McLaughlin Ridge Formation (Sicker Group) and a gabbro intrusive (informally called the Mount Hall Gabbro) that is coeval with the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation, Vancouver Group, (Massey, N.W.D., Personal Communication, 1991).

Two small quarries are reported to exist about 400 metres north of Crofton Lake. Some of the more heavily pyritized rocks in the area contain chalcopyrite along with malachite and bornite. In the lower quarry, where gabbro is in contact with the metasediments, extensive pyritization occurs in silicified sediments 20 metres north of the contact, along with minor amounts of copper minerals. The pyrite occurs as disseminations and as masses in fractures. At the contact is an altered chloritic schist with quartz veining confined mainly to bedding. Chalcopyrite and minor amounts of pyrite are found in the quartz. In 1985, drilling intersected small , 25 to 60 centimetre, zones of semi-massive magnetite with trace pyrrhotite. The best of these assayed 0.13 per cent copper and 0.01 per cent zinc over 0.80 metres (Assessment Report 13853).

At the Phoenix showing a pit, 6 metres wide and 1.5 metres deep, exposes a 1-metre wide quartz vein trending west through sheared gabbro. The vein is virtually barren except for an occasional speck of malachite (Notes by Wright, 1969).

In 1969, Canpac Minerals explored the area as the Sirius claims. A program of geological mapping and a ground magnetic survey was completed. In 1978, the area was staked as the Croft 2 claim and a program of geological mapping and soil sampling was completed. In 1983, the area was staked as the West claims by R.J. Bilquist and a program of prospecting was completed. In 1984 and 1985, Falconbridge optioned the property and completed programs of geochemical sampling, a airborne geophysical survey and two diamond drill holes, totalling 327.7 metres. In 1987, Falconbridge completed a drilling program of 10 holes, totalling 3170.7 metres, in the vicinity of Breen Lake on the West 1 claim.
